About The African Child Agenda

Who we are

The African Child Agenda is an NGO registered in Ghana that has been set up to address the needs of children and families in the diaspora and those on the African continent. Our first initiative began in 2021, were we established a Saturday school educating over 80 children. This has been done as an interim measure and bolt on to children’s current education whilst we fund-raise for the full-time (STEAML) Science technology Engineering Art’s Mathematics & Languages school to be built.

We currently educate 87 children and have provided them all with a custom made uniform, shoes, bags, pens pencils, workbooks and bags as well as a freshly prepared lunch cooked by local people before they leaver for the day. We will be opening our second Saturday school in Winneba (central region) in early 2023.

Children arrive at 08.00am and leave at 14.00 subjects include

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Debating
  • Robotics
  • Financial literacy

The children are broken up into classes where each child is in a workgroup no larger than a 4-1 student-to-teacher ratio. This allows us to easily offer each child the support they need, and quickly identify any additional learning or behavioral needs.

All teaching staff currently work with us on Saturday but full-time in the private school sector, once the main school is built, they will be employed full-time. We have engaged with experienced teachers and retired head teachers from the UK & USA who are also enthusiastic about the new school and have already offered a forward-thinking bespoke curriculum.

With the change in the global marketplace, The Phoenix Centre of Excellence is passionate about introducing children to the modern world of the Tech industry is one of the fastest growing areas of the 21st century with skilled young people in high demand, from AI & Blockchain, Metaverse, Crypto, to virtual reality and the next generation of computing programming and Analytics.

Volunteer With Us

Many charities around the world have adopted the practice of  offering volunteering opportunities. There is truly no better way to experience Africa than by immersing yourself in the local culture, volunteering within the community and giving back on projects that value your support. This is a great way to get a better first-hand experience of how your preferred charity works, and meet the team on the ground who are serving the community.

As a volunteer you will work closely with The African Child Agenda team, supporting our varying programs, and supporting our work to make our vision a reality to change the lives of children & families.

Immersing yourself in the Ghanaian culture, letting go of your comfort zone and giving back through volunteering is the most rewarding way to travel the continent and learn something new about yourself at the same time! From the moment you step off the plane in Ghana, you’ll feel embraced by the local community which will be further felt as you’re volunteering within that community.

“Eye-opening, heart-warming and so fulfilling” is the experience you should prepare for! And if open to a weekend adventure, you can head out on a road trip to experience the white sandy beaches of Ghana or even set your sights on touring many heritage sites including Black Star Square or the Castles in Cape Coast or Elmina.
